  1. Dear Professors,

Currently, we are giving a course entitled “Fundamentals of GIS” at the Department of Geomatics Engineering of Istanbul Technical University which is the second oldest university in Turkey established in 1773.

In the course, we are following the second edition of your book “GIS: A Computing Perspective”. We are also using your lecture note presentations which were provided by your side. We are kindly asking if it is possible to get the PDF version of the new version and updated presentations to be used as lecture materials in our course.
Please find attached the syllabus of the mentioned course.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dr. Dursun Zafer Seker

  2. Dear Dr Seker,

Thanks very much for your question. I’m delighted to hear that the second edition has been useful for you and your students.

Five of the ten chapters are of course free and open access. You can download the pdfs for chapters 1, 2, 3, 8, and 9 from this website: http://gisacp.duckham.org/open-access-chapters/

The other chapters are not available as PDFs, I’m afraid, but I notice that the Amazon Kindle digital version is available at no cost: https://www.amazon.com/GIS-Computing-Perspective-Matt-Duckham-ebook/dp/B0CDFG2D72

That is a great question about the slides. I’m glad to hear the lecture slides from the earlier versions were useful. We don’t have updated third edition slides yet, but they are planned, and I will try to fast-track them to be ready for January 2024.

    Matt
